Tim Phillips: Director of Europe

Tim was a colleague of Ben’s at Oxford University, graduating in 1993 with a BA Hons in Earth Sciences (Geology). He went on to qualify as a lawyer at the College of Law in London, in 1995 he went to work at the European Commission in Brussels, before qualifying as a solicitor with London-based law firm Herbert Smith, specializing in corporate finance and corporate law in the media sector.

In 2002, he left private practice to work in a number of commercial roles, including at BSkyB and AOL Europe in London. In 2006 he moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina with his family and founded an internet development agency, before moving back to London to run European Public Affairs for Betfair, a leading online sports gambling company. He was involved in the floatation of the company on the London Stock Exchange in October 2010, which had an initial valuation of £1.4bn (US$2bn) and immediate entry into the FTSE250.
